The item is classified as a Critical Application Item requiring Government engineering source approval and is subject to stringent quality and configuration control requirements, including tailored higher-level contract quality standards, configuration change management, and removal of government identification from non-accepted supplies. Sampling and inspection must follow MIL-STD-1916 or ASQ H1331 Table 1 with zero non-conformances required for acceptance unless otherwise specified; critical, major, and minor attributes are assigned verification levels of VII, IV, and II or AQLs of 0.1, 1.0, and 4.0 respectively. Packaging and marking must conform to MIL-STD-2073-1E and MIL-STD-129 with specific preservation methods, unit containers, and pack codes as detailed. Mercury and mercury-containing compounds are prohibited except in defined functional applications such as batteries, fluorescent lamps, sensors, and controls, with portable devices required to have a second containment boundary per NAVSEA 5100-003D. The item is subject to the Buy American Act and Berry Amendment as well as domestic sourcing restrictions.
