As part of the NRC Platform to support the ‘Decarbonization of the Construction Sector at Scale’, the Low Carbon Built Environment (LCBE) challenge program seeks to support industry-developed carbon accounting tools, low carbon construction materials (including cement products), and solutions and tools that support and enable green procurement to minimize life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions in new construction and retrofits.
In order to support low-carbon construction materials in the cement and concrete sector a Canadian guidance document is required to ensure consistency and transparency in carbon accounting and lifecycle analysis calculations. This will help provide credible information within Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in this sector. This will enable procurement of low carbon cement and concrete solutions in construction projects.
