Alvarado 2nd Pipeline Extension

The City of San Diego plans to upgrade its water infrastructure by replacing approximately 3,235 linear feet of existing 24-inch diameter cement mortar lined and coated steel water main with new 16-inch diameter water main using a replace-in-place method. Additionally, around 2,730 linear feet of new 16-inch diameter water main will be installed via open trench construction, extending service to include associated water services, fire hydrants, valves, meters, curb ramps, paving, and other necessary appurtenances. Existing infrastructure will be decommissioned as part of the project, including approximately 406 linear feet of 24-inch diameter CMLCS and asbestos cement pipe, as well as 3,840 linear feet of 4-inch diameter PVC pipe currently serving the San Diego Surf Sports Park. To maintain service continuity, about 35 linear feet of new 4-inch diameter PVC pipe will be installed to reconnect the abandoned section to the upgraded system. The project builds upon prior environmental review under a Mitigated Negative Declaration adopted on November 30, 2011, for Citywide Pipelines Projects, which established the regulatory framework for similar infrastructure upgrades across the city. All work is anticipated to occur within San Diego, California, with Nader Naghavian, Associate Engineer at the City of San Diego, designated as the primary point of contact.
