The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services (VS), National Veterinary Stockpile (NVS) is seeking information regarding companies capable of providing humane euthanasia/ depopulation and/ or disposal services for animals such as cattle, bison, poultry, and/ or swine. The NVS is the nation's repository of critical veterinary supplies, equipment, and service resources. It exists because of the nation's concern after 9/11 that terrorists could release animal diseases of catastrophic proportions that could deplete the resources of State and local responders. The NVS' ability to deploy, within 24 hours, large amounts of critical veterinary resources ensure States have what they need to respond to catastrophes and disease outbreaks. Depopulation and carcass management (disposal) are two important tools for controlling catastrophic animal diseases. The NVS seeks: 1. Vendor(s) capable of humane euthanasia/depopulation of large numbers of diseased poultry, livestock and/or feral swine; (Attachment 1) 2. Vendor(s) capable of developing and manufacturing humane euthanasia/ depopulation technology; and/ or (Attachment 2) 3. Vendor(s) capable of disposal management, including transportation, of animal carcasses and associated animal waste (manure, bedding, litter, and other contaminated materials. (Attachment 3) For more information about the specifics of each category, see the 3 applicable attachments. Sources who respond to this notice are responsible for appropriately marking information if it is proprietary in nature.
