B--USGS Detrital zircon U/Pb, Hf, and T/REE analyses
Solicitation # 140GG027Q0015
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is seeking specialized analytical services for detrital zircon U/Pb, Hf, and T/REE analyses on rock and modern sediment samples. This work supports multiple scientific initiatives, specifically the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska Petroleum Systems Projects. The scope of work includes U-Pb geochronologic analysis for 100 to 300 zircons per sample, with the potential for 600 or more analyses upon request, followed by SC-ICPMS measurements of T/REE and Hf isotopic concentrations. Deliverables consist of formatted Excel spreadsheets containing age data, isotope ratios, and concentration measurements, accompanied by annotated BSE map images or data files indicating analysis locations. The contract requires the service provider to be a professional with at least a Master's degree in analytical geochemistry and continental tectonics. Technical performance must adhere to specific protocols from Gehrels et al. and Sundell et al., utilizing nondestructive methods with strict reproducibility standards for isotope ratios. The total performance period for all samples shall not exceed one year, with individual orders typically completed within one to three months. The USGS intends to award this contract to the University of Arizona LaserChron Lab as a sole source, though other qualified vendors were invited to respond by November 4, 2026. Final acceptance of the work is managed by a USGS Technical Liaison based on the completion of all required geochronologic measurements.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Water Resources is soliciting proposals under solicitation number SRC0000030491 to develop 1- and 2-hour Annual Exceedance Probability and climate change projections for extreme rainfall and hydrology in Ohio. The project requires the use of CMIP6 Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 data and regional downscaled projections to evaluate changes in precipitation, moisture, and temperature through the year 2100. The contractor must investigate numerous model output projections and ensembles to provide site-specific likely outcomes and uncertainty quantification for emission scenarios SSP 4.5 and SSP 8.5. Key technical tasks include updating NOAA Atlas 14 data, conducting regional precipitation-frequency analyses using L-moment methodologies, and adjusting Probable Maximum Precipitation estimates to provide actionable information for dam safety and design criteria. The contract will be awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder based on Lowest Price Technically Acceptable principles. Deliverables consist of a consolidated database of results and a comprehensive letter report detailing the methodology and recommendations. Performance is governed by the State of Ohio Standard Terms and Conditions, with delivery specified as F.O.B. Destination. The contractor must comply with strict state mandates, including prohibitions on offshore services and investments in Russian entities, and must submit an approved Affirmative Action Plan prior to award. Administrative oversight is managed by the Ohio Division of Water Resources, with invoicing processed through Financial Shared Services.

Develop the 1- and 2-hour AEP and climate change projections specifically related to extreme rainfall and hydrology in Ohio.  Evaluate Global Climate Change projections and model output using Regional Downscaled Projections relevant for Ohio.  Utilize the current climate change projections available from CMIP6 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6).  Projections from CMIP6 are available in a downscaled format on a gridded output covering the region at a high resolution (0.025 decimal degrees) that accounts for the spatial and temporal variabilities within each region.  Global Climate Model (GCM) projections and regional downscaled outputs must include parameters relevant to determine changes in precipitation, moisture, and temperature change including the seasonality of the parameters.  Numerous CMIP6 model output projections and ensembles must be investigated and the required parameters that represent temperature, precipitation, and atmospheric moisture must be downloaded.  These projections must provide the information needed to understand and quantify the amount and rate of change through time.  This must allow evaluation of each parameter at any interval between today and 2100.Utilize several methods to evaluate climate change over the region and develop likely outcomes of precipitation and temperature on various timescales that are site-specific to each location.  The results must be provided to Ohio along with uncertainty quantification and recommendations that include rate of change per emission scenario (SSP 4.5 and SSP 8.5) so that actionable information is provided to evaluate current design criteria and future design criteria against climate change projections.
