The U.S. Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Research Triangle Park Division, is set to award a sole-source, five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ), cost-type contract to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). This contract supports the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Science and Technology (DASA(RT)) in its mission to advocate and oversee the Army's science and technology programs, which include basic and applied research, technology development, demonstration, and transition efforts aimed at enhancing both current and future Army capabilities. The contract specifically facilitates the work of the Army Science, Technology and Research Studies (STaRS) Board, which organizes expert discussions, workshops, and studies to provide independent and objective technical analysis on critical science and technology topics relevant to Army priorities and national security challenges. The NAS, a congressionally chartered, private, non-profit society of distinguished scientists and engineers, will provide this expert analysis under statutory authority that mandates independent scientific reviews for government agencies. The sole-source nature of the award is justified under federal acquisition regulations due to the unique capabilities of NAS to deliver unbiased, expert scientific insight. The work conducted through this contract is intended to inform Army decision-making regarding science and technology resource allocation and advancement, thereby supporting innovation within the Army’s S&T framework. The contracting specialist for this opportunity is Camilo B. Asuncion, and additional inquiries can be directed to him via email.
