The contract involves the engineering and construction of a 60 by 180 foot concrete floor slab within an existing storage building, alongside a 18 by 20 foot concrete driveway approach pad outside the front overhead door. All organic material must be removed from the slab area, followed by the placement of a minimum six-inch compacted crushed stone aggregate subbase of ¾-inch minus material, which the contractor is fully responsible for grading and installing. A six-mil polyethylene vapor barrier is to be laid over the subbase, with all seams and penetrations overlapped by at least eight inches and sealed with Tuck Tape or an equivalent product. The concrete slab itself must be a minimum of six inches thick, made with a 32 MPa mix, classified as C-2 exposure, containing 5 to 8 percent air entrainment, and incorporating fiber reinforcement to mitigate shrinkage cracking. The aggregate size is specified at ¾ inch, with #4 rebar placed on 16 to 18 inch centers and covered by at least two inches of concrete above the top of the bars. The finish requires power troweling on the primary area and a light broom finish at all man door entrances, while control joints must be cut to a depth of 1.5 to 2 inches. The contractor must supply their own portable generator and lighting due to the lack of available electrical power and interior lighting on site. All necessary permits are the contractor’s responsibility, and the concrete supplier must be a Certified Production Facility through Concrete Alberta. An engineering report for the floor design must also be submitted prior to construction.

General Info

Construct 60x180 ft concrete slab and 18x20 ft driveway with 6-inch subbase, vapor barrier, 32 MPa fiber-reinforced concrete, rebar, and proper finishes.
