1. Introduction and Purpose


The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)/ NASA Shared Service Center (NSSC) is hereby soliciting information from potential sources for ASME certified high-pressure storage vessels suitable for hydrogen, methane, and nitrogen storage. This is a Sources Sought only. NASA is seeking capability statements from all interested parties, including all socioeconomic categories of Small Businesses, for the purposes of determining the appropriate level of competition and/or small business subcontracting goals.


2. Draft Technical Specifications


Interested firms must demonstrate the capability to meet or exceed the requirements described in the Statement of Work (SOW), particularly the ability to provide two vessels at 625 cubic feet each for a total of 1,250 cubic feet. Respondents may provide information on one or both of the following configurations:


  • Assembly Pack Configuration: Four (4) vessels arranged vertically in an I-beam or equivalent support structure with 1-inch medium pressure end connections and integrated lifting points.
  • Individual Vessel Option: A single 15,000 PSIG ASME certified pressure vessel tube with a 6-inch R-Con connection

3. Submission Requirements


Firms having the capabilities necessary to meet or exceed the stated requirements are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references. Please include:

  3. Technical Expertise: Documentation of the ability to manufacture to 15,000 PSIG ASME standards using SA372 Grade J material or a commercial equivalent.
  4. Past Performance: Brief summaries of at least three (3) similar projects involving high-pressure gas storage delivered within the last 5 years. Include contract numbers for any government deliveries.
  5. Lead Time: Estimated delivery schedule to NASA – John C. Stennis Space Center, MS 39529.
  6. Industry Feedback & Commercial Practices:
    • SOW Refinement: Identify any specifications that appear unclear, overly restrictive, or inconsistent with commercial manufacturing.
    • Missing Practices: Identify standard commercial practices (e.g., Helium leak testing, fatigue analysis) or safety features missing from the SOW.
    • Warranty Standards: Define your standard commercial warranty for these vessels and indicate if a separate warranty is offered for coatings in high-corrosion environments
