The Port of Richmond is seeking proposals from qualified parties to conduct a comprehensive assessment and develop a preliminary rehabilitation plan for the Processing Building at Shipyard Number 3 within the Point Potrero Marine Terminal. This historic building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is situated within the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park. Shipyard Number 3 has significant historical importance, having been part of Richmond’s wartime shipbuilding efforts under Henry J Kaiser during 1941-1942, which produced over 747 vessels. Post-war, the site was repurposed for ship repair, but market conditions led to its abandonment in 1946, leaving the structure with potential for preservation and adaptive reuse. The contract, posted by the City of Richmond, has a budget range between $50,000 and $200,000, with a response deadline of January 30, 2025. The project falls under NAICS code 332710, indicating a focus on structural metal product manufacturing, and is categorized as a small local economic development initiative. Interested parties can contact Robert Stevens via email or phone for further details and are directed to the provided online portal for additional information. The project aims to evaluate the building’s condition and outline preliminary steps for its rehabilitation, supporting future preservation and potential adaptive reuse efforts within this historically significant site.
