Atherton Channel Flood Control Maintenance Project (Notification of Lake or Streambed Alteration, No. EPIMS-SMO-56435-R3

The Atherton Channel Flood Control Maintenance Project, executed under Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-SMO-56435-R3, is an environmental maintenance effort managed by the City of Menlo Park and approved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code, the project focuses on the annual removal of ruderal herbaceous vegetation from the banks of the Atherton Channel, a rock-lined, trapezoidal engineered channel located in San Mateo County. The scope of work involves using hand tools such as chainsaws and machetes to clear vegetation and removing accumulated debris near the downstream culvert. The project strictly prohibits the removal of trees or sediment from the channel. Removed vegetation and debris will be loaded into covered trucks using manual labor, lifts, or clamshell buckets and transported to a construction yard approximately two miles away. From there, the materials will be placed in large dumpsters for pickup by Recology trucks and hauled to a landfill for final disposal.
