Awarded on August 1, 2019, under the Training and Readiness Accelerator agreement, this Other Transaction Agreement grants AVL Test Systems, Inc. of Plymouth, Michigan, a total of 10,395,000 dollars. The project focuses on the development of an Accelerated Vehicle Durability Testing drivetrain simulator designed to evaluate heavy vehicles weighing between 23,000 and 80,000 pounds with four or more axles. By integrating a chassis and drivetrain simulator, the Army aims to accelerate reliability and durability testing by four to five times, significantly reducing the time required for assessments. This initiative aligns with Department of Defense directives to incorporate modeling and simulation tools into the acquisition and testing process. The primary objective is to streamline vehicle acquisition by improving the assessment of high-risk chassis and powertrain components, as well as the reliability of on-board electronic subsystems. The effort is managed by the Department of Defense through the W6QK Acc-Orlando office.

In accordance with 10 U.S. Code - 2371b, an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) has been awarded on 1 August 2019 under the Training and Readiness Accelerator (TReX) agreement for the Accelerated Vehicle Durability Testing (AVDT) Drivetrain Simulator. The prototype project was awarded to AVL Test Systems, Inc. located in Plymouth, MI in the amount of $10,395,000.00 for all phases of this effort. The Army requires a drivetrain simulator to test heavy vehicles, with four or more axles and weighing from 23,000 to 80,000 lbs, which can be utilized to estimate the reliability of the vehicle system. The Army desires to develop a Heavy Vehicle Durability Simulator System, as part of the AVDT program, to include both a chassis simulator and a drivetrain simulator, to accelerate wheeled vehicle reliability and durability testing. Testing will be accelerated four to five times, significantly shortening test durations. This capability supports Department of Defense (DoD) directives to integrate modeling and simulation tools into acquisition development and testing. The ultimate goal is to streamline vehicle acquisition by quickening and improving assessments of vehicle system durability and reliability. The project focuses on stressing high risk chassis and powertrain components on heavy, multi-axle wheeled vehicles, but also extends to reliability of all on-board subsystems such as electronics.
