The BA-X Program Contract was awarded to Butler Parachute Systems on February 18, 2025, for a total value of 6.5 million dollars. This non-competitive award was granted because the Butler Parachute Systems BA-30 is the only low-profile, back-automatic parachute capable of meeting all government requirements and passing safe-to-fly testing within the program's objectives. The contract includes the procurement of the BA-30 parachutes along with various harnesses, rigging kits, training events, and manual updates. The BA-X system is designed to replace existing emergency back style parachutes for B-52 aircrew to reduce muscular and skeletal issues caused by excessive bulk and weight. These systems will be used for bailout, constant wear, and static line applications during both wartime and peacetime operations. Performance of the contract will take place in Roanoke, Virginia, and the project is managed by the Department of Defense through the contracting office at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Next Generation One-Person Life Raft Modernization
Solicitation # FA8606-26-R-5001
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Human Systems Division is conducting a market assessment to identify capable sources for the Next Generation One-Person Life Raft Modernization. This initiative aims to replace a 46-year-old legacy raft with a modern flotation system capable of supporting an isolated person for 14 days. A primary objective of the modernization is to significantly reduce the packed volume of the raft by 35 to 50 percent compared to the legacy LRU/16P, thereby increasing space and weight margins within seat survival kits to accommodate additional survival components and reduce maintenance. Technical requirements include durability for 5th to 95th percentile users, rainwater collection, sea anchor capabilities, and IR signature management. The government is seeking Rough Order of Magnitude cost estimates for approximately 2,000 production units and 30 ruggedized training units, as well as costs for technical manuals and a Technical Data Package to ensure future competitive procurement. This Sources Sought Synopsis is used for market research to determine the acquisition strategy and potential for a small business set-aside under NAICS code 314999. Interested parties must provide company identifiers, socioeconomic status, and feedback on their ability to meet the System Requirements Document specifications. Responses are limited to 20 pages and must be submitted to the primary point of contact by October 22, 2026.
