USAID has announced a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) aimed at supporting innovative applied research to tackle development challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa. Rather than requesting immediate proposals, this BAA serves as a framework under which USAID will issue periodic addenda, each focusing on specific sustainable solutions, scalability opportunities, feasibility studies, and other research initiatives targeting regional development issues. Each addendum will outline its own detailed instructions, evaluation criteria, submission requirements, and deadlines for expressions of interest or concept papers. The funding opportunities and partnerships will be introduced through these separate addenda, with the initial Addendum 01 and related Q&A and updates distributed in March 2020. The solicitation, identified as BAA-AFR-SD-2020 and posted in April 2021, falls under NAICS code 541990 and is managed by the USAID Office of the Agency for International Development based in Washington, DC. Interested parties seeking further information or wishing to engage with this initiative can contact the designated point of contact, Jamie L. Raile, via email. This BAA represents USAID’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa through collaborative, research-driven approaches that address complex regional challenges.
