The following is a summary of the work to be undertaken to demolish the original Badgeley Island Lighthouse (LL987). The site coordinates are 45° 55’ 41.967”N, 81° 36’ 7.563”W. The site is located on Badgeley Island in the North of Georgian Bay. The closest major settlement is Killarney, Ontario, which is located approximately 8.5km Northeast of the site. The site is accessible by water or helicopter. The description of work includes: • Demolition of the existing steel tower and foundations; • Removal of all remaining solar panels, wiring, lighting, and any other associated components serving the original lighthouse; • Transportation of demolished goods from the site; • Disposal of all waste at a licensed waste disposal facility. Site work is expected to take approximately one week beginning in the spring/summer when Georgian Bay thaws and the site is accessible by water. Due to the remote site location, the proximity to Georgian Bay, and the designated substances present, a detailed Environmental Protection Plan shall be implemented and shall account for the items listed in the specifications, as well as the demolition of the structure and transportation of the demolished goods from the site to the licensed waste disposal facility. The Contractor must perform and complete the Work by September 1st, 2023.
