The purchase is for 40 ballistic shields ($116K). In April 2019, the Naperville Police Department issued a bid for authorized vendors to provide the Protech Defender X Type Ballistic Shields. A ballistic shield is a hand¬held shield that is capable of defending the user from handguns, shotguns and submachine guns. Purchasing these shields will allow the department to be equipped with this tool and deploy it on a number of different calls including, but not limited to, active threats, suicidal subjects, and violent crimes involving weapons.
