The battery must comply with stringent technical and quality standards referenced through the DLA Master List, including zero-defect sampling under MIL-STD-1916 or equivalent zero-based plans, with critical, major, and minor attributes assigned strict verification levels or AQLs. Mercury and mercury-containing compounds are prohibited except in functional batteries, and portable fluorescent lamps or instruments with mercury must include shockproof construction and a secondary containment boundary per NAVSEA 5100-003D. The item has a Type I shelf life of 12 months, non-extendable, and must be clearly marked with Special Marking Code 32. Packaging must adhere to MIL-STD-2073-1E and MIL-STD-129, with palletization following DLA requirements, and each unit must be plainly labeled “NONSPILLABLE” to qualify for exemptions from hazardous materials shipping regulations under DOT, ADR/RID, IMDG, and IATA rules, provided terminals are protected and packaging meets 49 CFR § 173.159a criteria. The battery, weighing over 75 pounds, requires die-cut handle access holes on both ends of the box.
