The Department of the Interior is seeking a contractor to plug and reclaim eight orphaned and leaking wells located within Tennessee. This initiative follows the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation's identification of over 1,400 orphaned wells, seven of which are situated within park boundaries across the Honey Creek, Joe Branch, and Shirley areas. These specific wells have previously produced gas and are likely leaking methane into the environment. This project is currently listed as a forecast under NAICS code 213112. The primary objective is to mitigate environmental impact by sealing these wells and reclaiming the surrounding land. Coordination for this effort is managed through the National Park Service, with Niki Nicholas serving as the primary point of contact.
