Broadnose sevengill shark finclips & sixgill finclips

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, specifically the Marine Region, has issued a Section 2081(a) permit to California State University, Fullerton for educational research purposes. Titled Broadnose sevengill shark finclips and sixgill finclips, the project focuses on research studies regarding broadnose sevengill sharks and sixgill sharks. The permit authorizes the potential capture of coho salmon, Chinook salmon, and steelhead trout during the course of sampling activities. Research will be conducted year-round using hook and line methods, specifically baited dropper loops and surface fishing, to collect necessary data. The performance of this research is scheduled to take place in the nearshore waters of several California counties, including Monterey, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego. The period of performance for these research activities extends through December 31, 2028. This project is exempt under California Code of Regulations Section 15306 for information collection. Administrative oversight is provided by the Habitat Conservation Program Manager, Claire Waggoner, with Dylan Inskeep serving as the lead agency contact.
