Full Description

The Global Institute for Energy, Minerals & Society (GIEMS) is leading the Nuclear Research Reactor FEL-1 Feasibility Study to assess the potential development of a nuclear research reactor at the University of Saskatchewan's Saskatoon campus. The study includes four independently procured assessment work packages addressing distinct aspects of the project's feasibility. Through RFP-C, GIEMS is seeking a qualified proponent to assess the business and economic considerations associated with the potential nuclear research reactor. The assessment will examine operating models, long-term operating and lifecycle costs, potential revenue streams, utilization and demand assumptions, workforce and training requirements, transition costs, and other factors influencing the project's long-term economic sustainability. The work will also consider financial and operational risks, economic assumptions, potential cost-recovery opportunities, and conditions necessary to support a sustainable operating model. The successful proponent will develop an integrated FEL-1 business costing model addressing operating and lifecycle economics and provide applicable cost and schedule inputs to support the broader feasibility assessment. The findings will contribute to the overall FEL-1 feasibility assessment and help identify the conditions, uncertainties, and further analysis required to consider advancing the project to FEL-2. Interested proponents should review the full RFP for scope, deliverables, qualifications, and submission requirements.
