The purpose of this work is to quantify the amount of plastic pollution entering the environment from both land and aquatic-based sources, measure Canada’s progress towards its ambitious goal of zero plastic waste by 2030, and to identify opportunities to help Canada achieve its goal. The objectives are to: - Quantify the amount of plastic pollution entering the environment from land and aquatic-based sources in Canada (i.e. leakage) to establish a baseline to assess progress over time; - Identify existing and planned domestic policy interventions and actions by governments, industry and others that will help to reduce plastic waste and pollution in Canada; - Quantify the projected reductions in plastic waste and pollution based on the current and planned interventions to determine the progress towards Canada’s goal; and - Analyze, prioritize and quantify the opportunities for additional domestic interventions to accelerate the reduction of plastic waste and pollution in Canada.
