CAL FIRE Kneeland Helitack Base Land Acqusition

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is pursuing the acquisition of approximately 133 acres of land in Humboldt County to serve as the future site for relocating the Kneeland Helitack Base. The property is located at the junction of California State Highway 299 and Snow Camp Road at Lord Ellis Summit, also known as Bald Mountain. The acquisition comprises four specific assessor parcel numbers: APN 316-111-006-000 (24 acres), APN 316-116-001-000 (41.5 acres), 316-115-006 (56 acres), and 316-112-030-000 (11.5 acres). At this time, no improvements are proposed for the land. The project has been issued a Notice of Exemption from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) under the common-sense exemption, as the land acquisition is determined to have no significant effect on the environment. However, any future development or use of the site will require full CEQA compliance. The project is being administered by CAL FIRE, with Christina Snow serving as the primary point of contact.
