CalSIP, California Stream Gage Improvement Program

The City of Petaluma is implementing the California Stream Gage Improvement Program to install six real-time stream gage monitoring sites along the Petaluma River, Adobe Creek, Washington Creek, and Lichau Creek, with all installations required to be completed by October 2026. Work will be carried out collaboratively by City Staff, the Sonoma Resource Conservation District, and a Field Engineer from Xylem Water Solutions, with the primary goal of filling critical data gaps in California’s surface water monitoring network. The installed equipment will transmit hydrologic data in real time to the California Data Exchange Center and make it accessible to the public, supporting water resource management and emergency response efforts. Although the project has a one-year reporting period, the equipment is expected to remain operational beyond that timeframe to ensure sustained data collection for internal and regional use. The initiative is environmentally exempt under CEQA Section 15306, as it involves minimal physical disturbance and focuses exclusively on information gathering. No formal contract clauses, pricing details, evaluation factors, or binding procurement mechanisms are documented, and the project is classified as a forecast rather than a solicited contract. The City of Petaluma’s Water Resources and Utilities Department is the lead agency, with Oriana Hart serving as the primary point of contact for project coordination and oversight.
