The City of Calgary is seeking engineering consulting services to enhance volatile fatty acid production at the Bonnybrook Wastewater Treatment Plant. The scope includes assessing the current capacity and performance of the fermenter and primary sludge gravity thickener, followed by designing upgrades or expansions to improve Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal (EBPR). These improvements aim to reduce alum dosing in secondary treatment and lower dissolved reactive phosphorus levels in the effluent, contributing to more efficient wastewater treatment. The project requires consultants with expertise in municipal wastewater treatment, including condition assessment, process optimization, design, sustainability considerations, and compliance with provincial and federal regulations. Consultants must also demonstrate the ability to estimate capital, operating, and maintenance costs, and apply multi-criteria decision analysis. The work is structured into three phases: Phase 1 (Feasibility and Conceptual Design), Phase 2 (Detailed Design), and Phase 3 (Construction and Post-Construction Services), with initial contract awards limited to Phase 1, pending the City’s approval for subsequent phases. The proposal response deadline is February 11, 2026, and the main contact is Jiang Wang from the City of Calgary.
