The City of Cranbrook is seeking a contractor to provide annual roadway line painting services from 2026 to 2028, covering approximately 67 kilometers of longitudinal lines along with hundreds of crosswalks, specialty markings such as bicycle lane symbols, sharrows, diamonds, handicap parking symbols, and turn lane arrows. The contract also includes painting approximately 10 parking lots on a rotational basis, around 7.5 kilometers of color-coded curbs (yellow for no parking, red for bus stops, and blue for handicap stalls), and 8.4 kilometers of solid yellow centerlines on a paved multi-use path network. Contractors may occasionally need to remove existing markings when traffic patterns change. Detailed paint quantities and types are provided in the schedule of quantities and prices. Painting work must be completed annually in the spring, with all surfaces free of snow, ice, and debris before application. The City's street sweeping program will eliminate most debris prior to painting, but the contractor must ensure any remaining gravel or dirt is cleaned beforehand. The deadline for completing all painting is the end of June each year, with no restrictions on work hours, allowing for nighttime operations if desired. The solicitation, released in January 2026 with a response deadline in early February, is managed by the City of Cranbrook, a Government of Canada entity, with Curtis Mummery serving as the primary contracting authority.

Full Description

The City of Cranbrook has approximately 67km of longitudinal lines, hundreds of crosswalks, elephant foot markings, and turn lane arrows. Other specialty markings include bicycle lane symbols, sharrows, diamonds, and handicap parking symbols. The City paints its 10 parking lots on a year-by-year rotational basis. There are around 7.5km of painted curbs in Cranbrook, comprised of both yellow curbs for no parking, red curbs for bus stops, and blue curbs for handicap parking stalls, which are painted on a rotational basis. The City has a paved multi-use path network that has approximately 8.4km of solid yellow centerline that gets painted intermittently. Occasionally, a small amount of line/marking eradication is required of the contractor. This typically occurs when new line or marking alignments are required due to a change in traffic patterns. A full inventory is included in Appendix B – Schedule of Quantities and Prices. The City requires painting to be completed annually in the spring season. Road surfaces must be snow and ice-free, and the annual street sweeping program must have cleaned the majority of the painted roads before painting can commence. The City aims to have all surfaces requiring paint swept before painting is applied; however, any missed areas with excess gravel or dirt must be cleaned/swept by the contractor before painting. All painting must be complete by the end of June each year. The City permits paint crews to perform night work and does not restrict the hours during which the work can be performed.
