Colton High School Baseball and Softball Field Lighting

The Colton Joint Unified School District is implementing a project to upgrade field lighting at Colton High School, specifically targeting the varsity baseball, varsity softball, and junior varsity softball fields, while replacing existing lighting at the junior varsity baseball field. The scope of work includes the installation and replacement of 21 steel poles and 134 luminaires. These improvements are designed to meet California Interscholastic Federation lighting standards and incorporate specific features to eliminate skyglow and reduce light spill and glare for nearby residential areas. The project is intended to support existing school and community use and accommodate later evening activities resulting from a later school start time, without increasing student enrollment or expanding programs. Construction is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025 and will be executed in phases to minimize disruption to school operations. The project has been approved by the Division of the State Architect and is exempt under California Environmental Quality Act Sections 15304 and 15314, as it involves minor alterations to land and additions to school facilities that do not increase capacity. Administrative oversight is led by Owen Chang, Director of Facilities and Energy Management. The project site is located at 777 West Valley Boulevard in Colton, California, and all work must comply with CIF standards and environmental regulations to mitigate community impact.
