The Office of Geotechnical Design South, under Caltrans District 7 in Los Angeles, is conducting geotechnical subsurface exploration and testing to support a stormwater treatment project. The scope of work specifically involves percolation testing at four Design Pollution Prevention Infiltration Areas, which requires excavations up to five feet deep using hand shovels and the use of on-site water trucks. This effort is part of Federal-Aid Project 0722000208 and is focused exclusively on the geotechnical investigation phase. Because the project is one hundred percent state funded, it is subject to CEQA requirements only. Environmental assessments have been completed regarding air quality, biology, and cultural resources to support the CEQA exemption and NEPA categorical exclusion determinations. The project is managed by the California Department of Transportation and is coordinated through the Office of Geotechnical Design South to ensure proper infiltration and pollution prevention.
