The project is the acquisition of approximately 23 acres by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to expand the Crocker Meadows Wildlife Area for long-range protection and enhancement of black oak woodland, savannah, and sagebrush habitats for black-tailed deer, mountain lion and other wildlife. The property is also critical winter and fawning range for the Doyle interstate deer herd. Conservation provides protection to migratory corridors for deer and other wildlife.
