Complete OEM overhaul and repair of two (2) cooling tower gearboxes.
Solicitation # 80NSSC27946976Q
The NASA Shared Services Center, acting for the Langley Research Center, is seeking a sole source contractor for the complete overhaul and repair of two Philadelphia Gear Model 3418CT industrial cooling tower gearboxes. This requirement is designated as a sole source procurement awarded to Timken Gears & Services Inc. under FAR 12.102(a), as they are the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and the only provider with access to the proprietary blueprints, metallurgy specifications, and factory tolerances necessary to ensure the units meet as-new factory specifications. The scope of work includes complete disassembly, cleaning, and inspection, the installation of 100 percent new bearings, gearing, shafting, and seals, and the performance of Magnetic Particle Inspection on all reusable torque-transmitting components. The contractor must perform a rigorous pre-shipment validation at their facility, consisting of a minimum 90-minute no-load, full-speed mechanical spin test to record vibration, sound, and temperature levels. Deliverables include the overhauled units, which must be protected with internal rust preventative for at least six months and bolted to heavy-duty shipping skids for transit. The contract requires a three-year warranty on all overhauled drives and OEM parts, with a total performance timeline of approximately 24 weeks after receipt of order or equipment. This acquisition is conducted under FAR Part 12 for commercial items and services, with the primary point of contact being Procurement Specialist Shanna L. Patterson.
