DRS Systems, Inc., based in Melbourne, Florida, has been awarded a sole source basic ordering agreement by the Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Maryland. This agreement, spanning from May 14, 2024, to January 31, 2029, provides essential supplies and services to support the AN/AAQ-45 Distributed Aperture Infrared Countermeasure system and the Deployable Flight Incident Recorder System, along with their associated equipment. The scope of work encompasses logistics and engineering efforts for the technical insertion of software Operational Flight Programs into various platforms, the procurement of materials and technical data, and the repair and refurbishment of support equipment and assemblies. The engineering components of the contract include fault analysis, corrective actions, software and hardware development, and aircraft integration support. Additionally, the agreement covers non-recurring engineering and the development of Engineering Change Proposals. This sole source award is justified on the basis that DRS Systems is the only qualified source capable of performing the work, with estimates suggesting that seeking competition would lead to a substantial duplication of costs totaling approximately 357 million dollars.
