The district is seeking to upgrade its internal connections to support a high-density, 1-to-1 digital learning environment. The current infrastructure is reaching end-of-life and lacks the power budget and throughput required for modern classroom technologies, including high-definition streaming, online testing, and Wi-Fi 7 wireless access points.
Technical Requirements & Justification To meet these goals, the district requires a robust switching fabric capable of high-speed data transfer and high-wattage Power over Ethernet (PoE).
Core and Access Switching: The project includes a mix of 24-port and 48-port multigigabit switches (specifically Cisco C9350 series or equivalent).
Essential Licensing levels will support standard access layer connectivity.
Advantage Licensing levels are designated for core/aggregation layers to facilitate advanced routing and network segmentation.
High-Wattage PoE Support: To support next-generation peripherals and security systems, the switches must provide 60W UPoE and 90W UPOE capabilities. This is bolstered by 1600W AC Titanium Port-Inlet Power Supplies to ensure maximum uptime and power redundancy.
Throughput & Fiber Connectivity: To eliminate bottlenecks, the district requires 8-port 25G/10G networking modules (C9350-NM-8Y or equivalent) along with associated 10GB optics and cabling. This ensures that the backbone of the school's network can handle increased traffic from the MDF to various IDFs.
Stacking and Redundancy: To simplify management and provide "hitless" failover, the solution includes Type 1 Stacking Cables (50CM to 3M lengths) and Stack Power Cables. This allows multiple physical switches to operate as a single logical unit, increasing both port density and system reliability.
Impact on Student Learning This infrastructure project will provide the underlying hardware necessary to maintain a reliable, high-speed connection for all students and staff. By upgrading to 10G-mGig capabilities and increasing the PoE budget, the district ensures that the network will remain scalable for the next five years of technological growth, directly supporting the instructional goals of the district.
