DWA/CVWD Interconnection No. 2

The DWA/CVWD Interconnection No. 2 project, managed by the Desert Water Agency, involves the construction and operation of a potable water pipeline in Cathedral City, California. The system is designed to facilitate the transfer of water from the Coachella Valley Water District to the Desert Water Agency at a capacity of up to 2,500 gallons per minute. The scope of work includes installing approximately 1,450 linear feet of thermoplastic pipe beneath the Whitewater River Channel at the Cimarron Golf Resort, connecting the line to an existing CVWD 12-inch waterline at a well site and a DWA 12-inch waterline within a DWA easement, along with the installation of all necessary valves and appurtenances. The project is subject to a Mitigated Negative Declaration under CEQA, requiring adherence to a specific mitigation monitoring and reporting program. Key operational requirements include strict compliance with Cathedral City noise ordinances and Cal/OSHA sound emission standards, as well as local traffic regulations. Special provisions are in place for archaeological discoveries, requiring a total work stoppage within a 50-foot radius of any find and notification of the Senior Engineer, Adrian Biggs. Additionally, the project allows for a tribal monitor approved by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians to be present during ground-disturbing activities such as trenching and initial drilling.
