Full Description

The Chester County Department of Facilities desires to obtain Ekki lumber to be used in rehabilitation of County Bridges. The work includes, but is not limited to, furnishing all necessary labor, equipment and materials to accomplish the following: Provide Ekki lumber for use at County Bridges. All lumber is to be Lophira Alata hardwood, structural grade. Material shall be fresh cut (approximately 40% moisture content at cut time) and untreated. All material to be free from “white rot” or other deformities such as extensive checking or twisting of the members. Material shall be surfaced or rough cut as stated. Members shall be straight grained, maximum slope of grain to be 1:10. Members are to be cut without heart center or sapwood, but intermediate light-colored heartwood will be permitted. Small drying cracks or splits less than 15” in length are permitted. Small is defined as less than 1/16” in width. Wane or included bark shall not be permitted. Members shall be delivered in actual sizes without excessive bending or twisting, excessive being defined as the amount that cannot be taken out by normal connections. End splits and shrinkage cracks that do not impair the fastening or strength of the material will be permitted provided they do not exceed 8” in length or 25% of material thickness. Material to meet the following allowable stresses: Bending (Fb) 3,750 psi; Tension (Ft) 3,450 psi; Compression parallel to grain (Fc) 3,550 psi; Compression perpendicular to grain (Fc) 2,000 psi; Shear parallel to grain (Fv) 425 psi; Modulus of Elasticity (E) 2,490,000 psi; Maximum unit weight for design purposes 72 pcf.
