The Naval Research Laboratory has awarded a contract for engineering, technical, and systems integration services to develop, fabricate, and install prototype embarkable electronic warfare systems on several Navy ships. These systems are designed as rotatable and transferable resources, meaning ships are modified with necessary power, cooling, and air support, but the actual hardware is installed only as needed. The prototype equipment consists of four electronic warfare countermeasure units, a control panel, and electrical interface boxes. The project leverages technology developed by the Naval Research Laboratory with additional engineering and fabrication support provided by ITT Exelis. This effort ensures that the Navy can efficiently deploy specialized countermeasure capabilities across a wider fleet of modified vessels than the total number of available hardware units.

Full Description

Develop, fabricate, and install an embarkable prototype EW system on a number of Navy ships. An "embarkable system" for a naval ship is one where modifications are made to the ship to support the system (power, cooling, air, etc.), but the embarkable systems are installed only when required. Typically, more ships are modified than the number of embarkable systems available, and thus the systems are shared as a rotatable and transferable resource. The required prototype embarkable systems being developed under this effort are comprised of four electronic warfare countermeasure units, a control panel, and electrical interface boxes. The EW countermeasure units will incorporate technology developed by NRL with engineering and fabrication support from ITT Exelis.
