AI Contract Overview

The contract involves the purchase of equipment for safety systems at two facilities of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), part of the Department of Energy. The procurement will be conducted on a sole source basis with Siemens Energy and Automation, as the existing safety systems at these facilities are based on Siemens equipment. This ensures compatibility and interchangeability with current infrastructure, including communication protocols and programmable controllers from Siemens. The Government intends to solicit and negotiate directly with Siemens under the authority of FAR 6.302, without issuing a competitive solicitation. While interested parties can express their interest and capability to meet the requirement, the decision to proceed without competition is entirely at the Government’s discretion. Information submitted by other parties will only be used to decide whether to authorize a competitive procurement, but no competitive solicitation will be issued stemming from this notice. This action reflects the necessity of maintaining a consistent and integrated system standard across NETL sites to support operational safety requirements.
