The U.S Army Garrison Fort Hunter Liggett proposes to request assistance from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to perform prescribed burns within approximately 162,000 acres of Fort Hunter Liggett. The prescribed burn will aim to reduce invasive species, reduce wildfire fuels, enhance the existing oak woodland habitat, and reduce wildland fire starts from military training activities. The prescribed burn would occur annually between late spring and fall maximize effectiveness. Approximate timing of the burn is dependent on fuel type, weather conditions and prescription burn requirements as identified in the final Burn Plan.
