Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. was awarded a 127,559,450 dollar modification to a fixed-price incentive contract for the production and integration of Department of the Navy Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures hardware. This sole-source award, managed by the Naval Air Systems Command, provides critical weapon replaceable assemblies including 292 advanced threat warning sensors, 54 control indicator units, 92 processor units, 62 Guardian laser transmitter assemblies, 53 high capacity cards, 45 smart connector assemblies, and 42 battery kits. The contract also covers essential systems engineering, technical support, and analysis to integrate the system across various aircraft for the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force Special Operations Command. The project is expected to be completed by January 2027, with work distributed across multiple states, primarily in Illinois, California, and Colorado. Funding is drawn from fiscal year 2022, 2023, and 2024 aircraft procurement and research accounts for the Navy, Air Force, and Army. Northrop Grumman was selected as the sole provider because it is the original developer and producer of the technology, and seeking alternative sources would cause unacceptable delays to the program.
