Garcia Bridge Scour Initial Study with Proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration

Caltrans District 1 is implementing the Garcia Bridge Scour project on State Route 1 in Mendocino County, located at post mile 18.5, approximately 0.75 miles south of the Mountain View Road intersection. The project focuses on rehabilitating scour at three of five bridge piers, specifically piers 3, 4, and 5, as well as abutment 6, to preserve the structural integrity of Bridge No. 10-0113. Additional work includes spot sandblasting and repainting all metal bridge components in the existing green color. The project is being managed under solicitation 01-0L280 and has undergone environmental review pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act. Caltrans has proposed a Mitigated Negative Declaration and an Initial Study to address environmental impacts, including specific mitigation measures for special status fish and coordination with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The project is classified as a Categorical Exclusion and is overseen by the Senior Environmental Scientist at the Eureka office.
