The use of Class I ozone-depleting chemicals is strictly prohibited, and any substitute materials must be pre-approved unless authorized by the specification. Hazardous materials, if present, must be labeled in compliance with the Hazard Communication Standard and MIL-STD-129, and items containing mercury must be shockproof with a secondary containment barrier as per NAVSEA 5100-003D.
