Grapevine Fuels

The Watershed Research and Training Center (WRTC) will implement fuels reduction activities on approximately 52 Acres private lands near Hyampom, CA. This project comprises part of the Watershed Research and Training Center’s landscape treatment effort in Hyampom; a community which has been impacted by numerous high severity wildfires in the last 25 years. Treatment types include manual thinning, chipping, hand-piling and burning, and mastication. These actions will treat live and dead shrubs and small trees up to 12” in diameter. These treatments will alter fuel loading and reduce fire behavior along a public ingress/egress route and strategic landscape features, as well as providing defensible space to residents. They will also serve to improve forest health in a young post-fire system by reducing competition and fire risk, and increasing residual tree vigor.
