The contract awarded to L-3 Global Communications Solutions, originally established on May 30, 2006, is an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity agreement for the production of Special Operations Forces Deployable Node-Medium (SDN-Medium) Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSAT) and associated spares. It spans a five-year ordering period with Firm Fixed Price orders, supporting critical communication capabilities for USSOCOM’s operations. Due to the increased operational tempo driven by Overseas Contingency Operations, the contract’s maximum order amount has been revised from $60 million to $117 million to accommodate the accelerated demand for SDN-Medium units. This adjustment ensures continued support of the SDN-Medium system, a key element in Special Operations communications infrastructure, and reflects the growing requirements faced by USSOCOM. The contract is managed through the Department of Defense office in Tampa, Florida, with performance taking place in Victor, New York. A competitive follow-on procurement is expected to succeed this contract as the operational needs evolve, ensuring the sustainment and enhancement of vital communication systems for Special Operations Forces.
