Huichica Creek Riparian And Salt Marsh Restoration Project

The Napa Resources Conservation District has been selected to lead the Huichica Creek Riparian and Salt Marsh Restoration Project, authorized through funding approval from the California State Coastal Conservancy. The project aims to restore approximately 70 acres of habitat surrounding the lower portion of Huichica Creek in Napa County’s Carneros region, encompassing riparian and salt marsh ecosystems. Key activities include extensive community engagement, development of comprehensive restoration plans and designs, completion of environmental review documentation, and submission of all necessary permit applications to ensure regulatory compliance and ecological efficacy. In tandem with these efforts, the grantee will deliver environmental education programs targeted at local youth and implement workforce development training initiatives to build local capacity and foster long-term stewardship of the restored landscape. All activities are centered on improving ecological resilience, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting public awareness in a region vital to Napa County’s natural heritage. The California State Coastal Conservancy, through its Project Manager Mark Kalnins, maintains oversight of the project’s implementation and compliance.
