The Coachella Valley Water District is initiating the Hydropneumatic Tank Replacement Phase 3 project to maintain domestic water pressure and prevent system disruptions caused by deteriorating and corroding equipment. The project involves the manufacturing and installation of two new 5,000 gallon hydropneumatic tanks at Booster Station 05505 and Booster Station 06730, replacing the existing 3,200 and 5,000 gallon tanks respectively. Additionally, one 5,000 gallon tank at Booster Station 06504 will be rehabilitated. All work will adhere to current system sizing parameters and coating specifications. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2026 and is expected to last up to 280 calendar days, with no disruptions to water services anticipated. The project requires minimal excavation and is located within California. Because Booster Station 05505 and 06730 are situated within the Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan areas on previously developed sites, they are not subject to development mitigation fees, though BS 05505 must comply with specific conservation measures and maintenance manuals. The project has been declared categorically exempt under CEQA Guidelines.

The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) will replace two (2) existing steel hydropneumatic tanks at CVWD Booster Station 05505 (BS 05505) and 06730 (BS 06730) and rehabilitate one (1) hydropneumatic tank at CVWD Booster Station 06504 (BS 06504). BS 05505 (3,200 gallons) and BS 06730 (5,000 gallons) will be replaced with two (2) new 5,000-gallon tanks. The rehabilitation of BS 06504 will retain its 5,000-galon capacity. CVWD’s domestic water system relies on pressurized tank(s) to maintain domestic water pressure allows for booster pump(s) to cycle at appropriate intervals and reduces unnecessary over pumping during high demand. These three (3) tanks are in need of rehabilitation and replacement because the current tanks are deteriorating and corroding and run the risk of failure that can cause disruptions within the domestic water system. This project includes the manufacturing to fabrication of two new (2) hydropneumatic tanks (BS 05505 and 06730) and rehabilitation of one (1) hydropneumatics tank (BS 06504) using CVWD’s current system sizing parameters and coating specifications. Construction is anticipated for the duration of up to 280 calendar days and will start in September 2026. This project will require minimal excavation for the placement of structures and equipment. There will be no disruptions to water services during construction. BS 05505 is within the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains Conservation Areas and is subject to the CVMSHCP Conservation Measures and the CVWD established Operations and Maintenance manual. BS 05505 and 06730 are within the conservation areas of the Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (CVMSHCP); however, the sites are not subject to the CVMSHCP development mitigation fee because the sites are previously developed.
