Illicit Drug Trace Detection

The United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) maritime law enforcement mission includes countering illicit narcotic trafficking. Maritime law enforcement encompasses armed intervention by uniformed Coast Guard personnel, conducted both aboard vessels and at facilities ashore, to detect and suppress violations of applicable law. To support this critical mission, USCG units are authorized to conduct Contraband Detection Activities (CDA) to determine the presence of contraband. CDA involves the use of organic, mechanical, or chemical devices that sample or examine the air or physical surfaces to detect narcotics or explosives. The purpose of this project is to acquire and field advanced Narcotic Trace Detection (NTD) devices to fulfill this operational CDA requirement.
