Imperial County I-8 Wildlife Camera Study

Caltrans proposes a wildlife camera study project to collect systematic wildlife camera data along eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) between post mile (PM) R4.7 and PM R5.4 in Imperial County adjacent to the I-8 Peninsular bighorn sheep nursery island, an area known to have a high rate of wildlife-vehicle collisions. Each site will include one to four cameras, depending on the characteristics of the crossing structure and the adjacent landscape. Cameras will be located outside the clear recovery zone and within Caltrans right-of-way. They will be strapped to a tree branch or rock three feet off the ground facing inside the culvert. If there is not a good place to mount the camera on existing vegetation or rock the camera will be mounted on a t-post 3 feet off the ground with a cable lock and small master lock on the camera box.
