This is an Industry Day notice for an upcoming Future Naval Capabilities program on Flight Deck Thermal Management. Deployment of the new Navy/Marine Corps aircraft has caused ship flight deck buckling on amphibious ships from the excessive heat impact from engine exhaust plumes. Studies have indicated that repeated deck buckling will cause premature deck failure. The goal of this workshop is to provide: (1) some details for potential offerors who would plan on submitting solutions to arrest the thermal impact from the exhaust plumes of new and impending aircraft on Amphibious ships and (2) meet with Navy personnel who will be involved in the flight deck thermal management program. The solutions will need to mitigate the challenging heat fluxes and loads while also meeting the unique Naval ship and operational environment. The Navy is seeking both above-deck and below deck options, which are cost effective to install and maintain, and would last the service life of the ship. ONR BAA 09-031, which is expected to be released around June 30, 2009, will formally solicit white papers and proposals after the workshop. Industry Day will be held on June 18, 2009 at the Strategic Analysis Executive Conference Center, 3601 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22201 (703-797-4500).
