Industry Engagement Notice: Long-Term Fire Retardant Specification Revision


Event Date: November 10, 2026 


Event Time: Start time TBD. All activities are expected to be completed by no later than 17:00 local (mountain) time. 


Location: In-Person: Jack Wilson Building, National Interagency Fire Center, Boise, ID / Virtual Option: Link will be emailed to registered attendees in advance. Reasonable accommodations will be made to participate in the event for interested parties. This includes a virtual option to listen in, be sure to register in advance. 


Overview: The USDA Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management will host an Industry Engagement session focusing on the revision and updates to the long-term fire retardant specification (FS 5100-304e) and the associated standard test procedures. These revisions are being made in response to issues identified during the qualification process by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). 


This session is not a solicitation, and is intended solely for engagement and conversation around the new criteria. Industry feedback collected in Spring 2026 has already been incorporated into the revision. 


A copy of the revised specification will be emailed to all registered attendees prior to the event.


Registration: Registration is required for interested parties for both in-person and virtual attendance. Indicate your response in the attached document containing a link and/or QR code for the registration form. Registration is limited to 3 participants per company. Final attendance details will be emailed to in-person and virtual participants in advance of the engagement. Attachments related to the engagement will also be emailed to registered attendees in advance.
