The CDC plans to award a sole source firm-fixed price purchase order to Fisher Scientific Company LLC for the acquisition of a Microm - Thermo Fisher Scientific cryostat, specifically the HM525NX model, which is a standard cryostat used for frozen tissue sectioning. This equipment will replace a broken Microm cryostat that has been utilized by the CDC for diagnosing rabies for the past 15 years. Notably, accessory parts from the older HM505N model, such as tissue holders, are compatible with the new equipment, ensuring continuity and cost-effectiveness. The contract is being awarded under the authority allowing negotiation with a single source, and while this notice is not a request for competitive quotations, the CDC will consider any quotations or responses received by July 25, 2016. Responses are solicited to determine if a competitive procurement is necessary, although the government retains full discretion whether to proceed with competition. Interested parties must submit their responses in writing via email to Kim Morris, and telephone inquiries will not be entertained.
