Issuance of General Lease – Protective Structure Use – Lease 5809

The California State Lands Commission has authorized the issuance of General Lease 5809 for Protective Structure Use. This lease allows for the use of an existing seawall and a return wall surfaced with concrete veneer located on sovereign land in the Pacific Ocean, adjacent to 5297 Austin Road in Santa Barbara County. The agreement is set for a ten year term beginning on August 25, 2026. The project has been granted a categorical exemption under Class 1, Existing Facilities, as determined by California Code of Regulations title 14, section 15301, because the lease causes no physical change to the environment or existing activities in the area. Administrative oversight is managed by Robin Tuohy, Senior Environmental Scientist-Specialist, and Alexandra Borack, Assistant Chief of the Division of Environmental Science, Planning, and Management.
