AI Contract Overview

This contract involves the acquisition of 52 units of a specified electronic component, identified by NSN 7R-5998-014838798-FX, to be delivered FOB origin to Viasat Inc. in Carlsbad, California. Due to the flight-critical nature of the item and concerns over the adequacy of technical data, government source approval is mandatory before awarding the contract. Only sources previously approved by the government were solicited, and the approval process for new sources typically takes too long to delay the award. If a potential contractor is not an approved source, they must submit detailed technical data as outlined in Navy Supply Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) Source Approval Information Brochures related to spares or repair. Offers lacking this information or proof of prior submission will not be considered. The solicitation is managed by the Department of Defense’s NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support office in Philadelphia and was first posted in December 2014. The contract emphasizes the importance of timely approval for source qualification; if approval cannot be secured promptly or logistical constraints arise, the award may proceed using existing approved sources to meet fleet support requirements. Additional technical guidance and commercial item identification information are available on the NAVSUP WSS website, reinforcing the strict compliance and documentation needed for consideration in this procurement.
