AI Contract Overview

The contract involves the procurement of 18 units of an electronic component identified by NSN 7R-5998-015287004-FX, under TDP version 001, with delivery terms FOB origin to Viasat Inc. in Carlsbad, California. This is a notice of intent for a sole-source contract, as the government plans to negotiate exclusively with one approved source due to the flight-critical nature of the item and insufficient technical data to support full and open competition. The government does not currently possess adequate data to procure this part from sources other than those already approved. Potential suppliers who are not currently approved must submit detailed technical information as specified in the NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support Source Approval Information Brochures, and any offer lacking these required data will not be considered. Because the time frame for approving new sources is generally lengthy and could delay procurement, contracts are likely to be awarded to existing approved vendors to meet fleet support needs. The contract is managed by NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support under the Department of Defense, operating out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Interested parties may submit quotes or express interest, but the government retains discretion on whether to open the procurement to competition based on the responses received. The nature of this acquisition underscores the critical importance of source approval due to the high technical standards and the flight safety implications associated with this electronic component.
